Almanacs
Use almanacs to find quick facts and statistics. There are several different almanacs available for use in the Reference section. Here are two that would be useful for the Oklahoma project.
World Almanac for Kids,2010 Edition
Call Number: R 031 W
This is a kid-friendly almanac. You can find things like a pictures of the state flag and symbols.
World Almanac and Book of Facts,2005 Edition
Call Number: R 030 WOR
This almanac is more complex and a little dated, however it does have the current data from the 2000 census. Look here to find population data.
Atlases
Atlases are basically books of maps. Part of your project is to make a map of the state of Oklahoma. These are good resources to find the landforms, cities, bodies of water, etc. that are required components of your map.

Look here to find a map of the state, incuding cities, rivers and lakes, and economic products of different regions. Almanac-type data is included for each state.
Dorling Kindersley Children's Atlas, 2000 Edition

This is a visually attractive atlas. It could give you ideas for making your map extra special.
R 976 SCI State Alphabet Book Collection S is for Soonerby Devin Scillian, illustrated by Kandy Radzinski
While this book is not considered a true reference book, it is part of a collection of alphabet books about each of the states. This collection is housed in our reference section and is, therefore, not available for check-out. Students may want to take a look at this book to get ideas for further research. Books from other states can also be valuable for comparing and contrasting characteristics of two states.
